Stories from the work

Written only from documented events. Dates, places and figures come from HISCUS reporting; no participant is named or quoted beyond what has been published.

In Bethanchowk, the water came back

Nine months of construction ended on 9 July 2025 with reliable water access restored for at least sixty households, and a pattern for how HISCUS works in one place over time.

Three sessions, sixty-three participants, one method

Ropeway Sadak, Bethanchowk and Bhaktapur ran months apart in 2025. The format that connects them is deliberately unglamorous: talk, then make something.

    Sarangkot, seven years on

The Nestling Home was completed in April 2018. In 2025 it supports eleven girls, and two young people who grew up there have moved into higher education and careers.

Putting hard subjects on the record

A gendered-violence roundtable in 2024, a ward waste discussion in 2025, and a run of podcasts. This is the work of not letting a conversation end with the room.

    What volunteers actually do here

Not observation. Cutting fabric, carrying supplies, painting classrooms, planning sessions. The ordinary work that programmes are made of.
